WHAT IS THE BEST TIME FOR CHARDHAM YATRA?

The four major Hindu pilgrimage centers, Chhota Char Dham, are located in Uttarakhand, in the Garhwal area of the Himalayan Range. They mean "four small abodes." Yamunotri, Gangothri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath are the famous temples of this circuit, Chota Char Dham. Across these pages, one can go to 'moksha' or redemption once in one's life.

Set at more than 11,000 ft above sea level and near to 'Char Dham's' – Badrinath, Dwaraka, Puri, and Rameshwaram at the end of the winter, the shrines of Chota char Dham are reopened each year for pilgrims with snowfall in the summer season.

 When to visit

On the day of Akshaya Tritya, which is normally in the last week of April, or the first week of May, the Sanctuary and the Square open annually, Gangotri and Yamunotri Temples close each year on Bhai Duj on the islands of Diwali and Kedarnath. Vijaydashmi declares the closing date of Badrinath (Dushhera).

Because of adverse weather in late July and August, there are chances of roadblocks. There is a huge crowd of visitors in May and June. Thus, very little time is given for 'darshan.' In mid of May-July and September-October, it is best to have Char Dham Yatra.
